It’s happened to all of us: you’re released from an insane asylum only to have a shadowy network of spies try to kill you over a cake you won at a county fair. Okay, maybe not to all of us. But it’s happening to Ray Milland and he can’t get anyone to believe him. So as war rages in the skies of England, Milland has to stay one step ahead of the Nazis chasing him through underground tunnels, tailor’s shops and séances just to stay alive—let alone find out why they want that cake so badly.
An underappreciated gem from director Fritz Lang (Metropolis, M), Ministry of Fear turns the nightmarish paranoia of war into a surprisingly fun film that unsettles as it entertains.
